A good diuretic, rich in minerals, and probably has some alterative qualities, but I would more use it to reduce kidney stones and other deposits. For psoriasis, though, here's a much better treatment: Skin Problems - Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne, etc. The usual causes of these problems are one or more of the following: Circulating endotoxins Parasites EFA deficiency Insufficient liver function Vitamin and mineral deficiency Hormone imbalance Circulating endotoxins are usually caused by bacteria or toxins escaping from the intestines. A cleansing diet (using fruit and/or vegetables) is likely to help. Eating a raw potato per day (peel the skin and eat only the white) may greatly improve the condition in this case. However, certain supplements address this problem. Use the following regimen, which also addresses liver function and parasites: Cloves. Whole ones from the supermarket (not garlic - the ones in the spice section.) Grind them and pack into capsules and take 3, 3x per day for three weeks. Do not use preground cloves. Now Silymarin. This is a common brand and contains mostly turmeric, but is the best deal for silymarin I have seen. Take as directed. Silymarin (and coleus forskolii) reduces circulating endotoxins. Fennel Seeds. Take 1/2 to 1 teaspoon each time turmeric is taken. Chew well. Fennel seed capsules are also available in herb shops if the taste cannot be tolerated. The following help a great deal and are sometime necessary to add to this regimen: sarsaparilla, oregon grape root, L-glutamine, and especially coleus forskolii. The fennel seeds, turmeric, silymarin, and cloves will usually do the trick, though. Add to this something like Solaray Tetracleanse or Nature's Secret AM/PM Cleanse if there are any elimination problems. Toxins and solvents are quite common in health care products, cleaning supplies, foods, and other products in the home. See Hulda Clark's book called "The Cure for all Diseases" for the complete regimen, or my article called "Toxin Reduction in the Home and Diet" for a subset. If one is sensitive to petroleum byproducts absorbed through the skin or eaten, following this advice is mandatory to get relief. Parasites are a common cause of skin problems. They produce toxins from their waste products. Diet and Supplement Tips gives a lot of suggestions for this problem, but the following are sometimes sufficient: Fresh ground cloves and Nature's Way Black Walnut Hulls (or any others that assure the hulls were harvested while still green). Green black walnut tincture can be used instead of the walnut hull capsules. Combine these with something like Kroeger Wormwood Combination, Michael's Paraherbs, Nature's Way Para-X, cat's claw, pau d'arco, goldenseal, oregon grape root, etc. Taking goldenseal or oregon grape root helps with parasites as well as stimulates liver function. Eating raw almonds and especially pumpkin seeds help as well. Garlic and onions can be used, too, and should be added to the diet if they are not now consumed once or twice per week. And of course, Hulda Clark's zapper or other bioelectronic device can be a most helpful addition to any parasite regimen. Parasites are usually harbored by pets. If there are any in the home, it is mandatory that they be deparastized. Vets can prescribe a monthly supplement like Interceptor that is effective in eliminating roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms as well as preventing heartworm disease. Also recommended is using a spectrum tapeworm antidote, like Droncit, which is a one time dose. After this, use a mild tasting antiparasitic like Michael's Paraherbs, whose capsules can be opened and sprinkled on food after it is ensured that there are no adverse reactions to it. Use Paraherbs twice a week as a tapeworm preventative afterwards. It is sometimes necessary for all the people in the household to perform an antiparasitic regimen. Parasites like roundworms, a typical cause of skin problems, are difficult to eradicate if anyone else in the home is infected, even if they show no symptoms. Liver function should first be addressed with the endotoxin regimen or turmeric, fennel seeds, and silymarin. This is sometimes not enough due to the buildup of toxins like petroleum byproducts, plus stones, crystals, and other deposits. There is a complete regimen in Diet and Supplement Tips for removing stones and crystals. Silymarin reduces petroleum, but if this is a cause, taking yellowdock along with it will help a great deal. These problems can be attempted to be dealt with by taking Solaray Dandelion Yellowdock Blend along with the silymarin, turmeric, fennel seeds, and cloves. It provides the yellowdock as well as dandelion, which reduces stones and crystals in the liver. Essential fatty acid (EFA) deficiency is quite common. It is usually caused by eating excess amounts of fried food, which contains trans fatty acids, and hydrogenated oils, the kind in most processed foods and margarine. These interfere with fatty acid metabolism, as does a diet which contains too much starches and sugars. It is also caused by not eating enough foods which contain good oils, like raw nuts and seeds, which is common with the (stupid, IMO) low-fat craze. There are products now available at some health food stores in the refrigerated sections that are excellent EFA supplements. Arrowhead Mills makes an EFA supplement called "Essential Balance" that costs about $8. I have also seen hemp oil in this section, and it is even better than most blends, but is expensive - about double the cost of Essential Balance. Of course, any product like this should be refrigerated, and packaged in an opaque bottle. Essential Balance should only be used at 1T per day or less due to the amount of GLA contained. Hemp oil can be taken at recommended dosage. They should be used within one month or less after opening the bottle. They can also be used to make salad dressings. Instead of supplementing oil directly, the same effects can be had by making one's own nut butter out of raw nuts and seeds. A good way to do this would be to grind 1 cup almonds, 1/4 cup sesame seeds, 1/4 cup of flax seeds, and 2T unsalted butter together. Add Morton Lite Salt and/or Hain Sea Salt to taste. This can be done in a food processor, adding x-virgin olive oil to make it the right consistency. Keep refrigerated. Other good supplements to prevent EFA deficiency are EPA fish oil and spirulina. Take 1000mg of EPA/DHA and up to four spirulina per day. This is probably the best way to supplement, and certainly the easiest. Instead, salmon can be eaten once a week to get EPA and oatmeal twice per week to get GLA. Skin problems can also be caused by bacterial infections, usually from eating things like unsterile dairy products and not using proper hygiene in the kitchen and bathroom. See the article Diet and Supplement Tips for more information. Avoiding grains, which often contain small amounts of mold toxins which impair the immune system, is always recommended unless it is sure that the grains are mold free, or a sufficient amount of vitamin C is taken along with the grains to assist in detoxifying them. Avoiding sugars is helpful as well to boost immunity. Ensure one is getting adequate vitamins and minerals, especially copper and silica. The copper that comes from the pipes in the home interferes with usable dietary copper, and can cause deficiencies. Use a water purifier pitcher with a carbon filter for the water to be consumed. See Diet and Supplement Tips for more information on water. The easiest way to ensure adequate vitamins and mineral consumption is with a multivitamin and multimineral. A combination which is very good is Solaray Cal-Mag Citrate along with Richard's Special One multivitamin. There are many that will provide adequate amounts of nutrients and these are discussed in Diet and Supplement Tips. Either way, ensure that a combination provides copper, silica, and at least 100% RDA of zinc. Silica can also be had with horsetail (aka shavegrass) or oatmeal (2 bowls or more per week) if the multi does not contain it. Topicals that are helpful include licorice, lemon balm, or cayenne linaments for psoriasis and eczema, and grapefruit extract and tea tree oil diluted with hydrogen peroxide for acne. These are not necessary when following the above suggestions, but can help with the problem until it is solved. One thing that is a helpful for some eruptive disorders like acne is old fashioned lye soap, which does not contain possible contaminants such as PCBs. Use only on oily skin since it can dry. I have seen it at a couple of country fairs, but it is usually expensive. A inexpensive source of this type of soap ($2 per bar of oatmeal/lye soap delivered) is Judy Mullins, 1435 Denny Rd, Berry, KY 41003. turf
